I have always been sensitive to the relationship between space, climate, architecture, geographic location, human activities and so on can have a decisive impact on a space, I was born and raised in Shenzhen, a special southern city, historically speaking, the special nature of Shenzhen is inseparable from Hong Kong. In this city, if you walk all the way south, you will encounter a tangible boundary line that stretches from the suburbs to the city and back again.
The border line has a tall barbed wire fence and warning signs full of seriousness, as if it strongly separates the connection between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, but it is not as solemn and serious as the national border, the space between this side and the other side is not insurmountable, and with a little bit of formalities, we can easily go back and forth between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
As for Hong Kong on the other side of the border line, although it has been returned to China, their self-perception and ideology are still quite different from that of China as a whole. From the beginning of the construction of Shenzhen to the present, I have been more or less affected by the ideological impact of Hong Kong, and I began to re-examine this ideological conflict. This geographic and climatic area is identical, but it is divided into two spaces by ideology, and the two spaces intermingle with each other and permeate each other, and in this reaction, something new is constantly being created.
When I started shooting along the border, I found many ideological conflicts, such as the use of traditional and simplified Chinese characters, the change of architectural style, and the emergence of border industries, such as cab drivers traveling between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, who usually have two sets of license plates, one in black and the other in blue, but these conflicts are tacitly allowed in our ideology.
我一直对于空间之间的关系是很敏感的,气候,建筑,地理位置,人类的活动等等都可以对于一个空间有着决定性的影响,我在深圳这个较为特殊的南部城市出生长大,从历史上来讲,深圳的特殊性离不开香港。在这个城市中,如果你一直向南行走,会遇见一道有形的边界线,这道边界线从郊区延伸到市区,再延伸到郊区。
边界线有着高大的铁丝网和充满严肃意味的警示牌,仿佛强力的隔离开了深圳和香港的联系,但它又不像国境线那么庄重严肃,这边的空间与那边的空间并不是不可逾越的,只需要一点小手续,我们可以轻松的往返于深港两地。
对于边界线那边的香港,虽然已经回归了中国,但他们的自我认知以及意识形态上,依旧和中国整体有着比较大的差异。深圳从开始建设到现在,多少都会受到来自香港意识形态的冲击,我开始重新审视这种意识形态的冲突。这个地理,气候完全一致的地域,却被意识形态所划分为两个空间,两个空间互相交融渗透,并在这种反应中不断产生新的东西。
沿着边境线开始进行拍摄时,会发现了很多来自意识形态的冲突,比如繁体字与简体字的使用,建筑风格的改变,以及边境产业的出现,例如往返于深港两地的的士司机,他们通常拥有两套牌照,一套黑色一套蓝色,但这些冲突在我们的意识形态中又被默许了。
